Right after the biopsy and pet scan that gave us a metastatic prostate cancer diagnosis my wife became my caregiver. The job included many aspects but it started as a scheduler. Pam took care of all the appointments for the oncologist, urologist, primary care, nephrostomy tube changes, catheter changes and dressing changes, just to mention a few. Probably even more important was that she was with me for each and every one of the appointments. Hours and hours in waiting rooms and exam rooms and she is right there keeping me in the right place and at the right time. She has became my advocate for treatment and information and advice. Pam is also a pharmacy aide. She takes care of all the scripts and gets the refills on time. Every week my caregiver has all the supplements and drugs separated for morning and night ready to go. Pam has also become a dietician. She listened to the dietitians and researches constantly for new ideas and also fixes all the food. She puts up with my rants and is always my advocate. As you can tell my caregiver has a very full time schedule caring for me and I would be lost without her help.
