About Gilbert A
I took care of my father full time from 2010 until he passed away in 2011. He had been originally diagnosed in 2004, went into remission then about 4 years later the cancer came back towards the end of 2008, he had started treatments again but by 2010 he needed full time care. My family, mother, sister/brothers everyone worked full time and could only help my dad after work and on weekends and since My life was basically a wreck at around 23, i felt that God was telling me that I needed to change the path that I was on and care for my dad. I quit community college, quit my job my car had already gotten repossessed, my parents each had a car so i stepped up and starting caring for my dad. In the beginning of 2009 the Drs appointments were few and his meds were ministered. He and my mother were in escrow for the house we are currently living and we moved in Aug 2010. He eventually retired from the post office after 33 years and each month the doctors appointments started adding up so in 2010 I started full time with Dr appointments, treatments, pt but the cancer started spreading to his bones. The needed back surgery then a tumor was growing on his one of his eyes then we ended up having to get hospice and each week it seemed something would happen, we (my mother and i) would make it through then the next week something else.
All the while I’m thinking, im tired I’m worn out and emotional because this is my dad and my mom would tell me that all this time I’m spending with my dad is precious time. And she was right. My dad I would laugh together, cry together, listen to music together, pray and read together. We had those deep conversations and we settled a lot. He saw me turn 25, the house we live he opened up to out church to hold baptisms and on Aug 16 2011 he past away. He fought hard and strong. I miss him everyday but the time i cared for my dad is the time i hold dear to my heart.
