My parents divorced when I was 6. I’m the oldest of 4. So that in itself has been tough. However, now being 34 and getting the news that your mom has stage 3 multiple myeloma and then a matter of days later, dad has prostate cancer… well that’s tough! And now I’m considered that “sandwich generation”, so here I am trying to understand each diagnosis and treatment plan, and care for each parent while holding a full time job (as a Nurse Practitioner… so “ask Ashley what to do”) and being a wife and raising 2 young children… well this may be the toughest thing I may ever do in my life. I remind myself to keep my head high, take one day at a time and cherish each and every moment with my parents and family. Because that’s what life is, precious!
