About Tracy M.
On March 11 2011 we said goodbye to our father Harvey James McLain. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2005. At first his Dr. said at your age a heart attack will get you first. We’ll the Dr. was wrong, Dads cancer was the aggressive cancer not the slow old man cancer. My wife and I up rooted our family and moved back home to take care of my Dad. It was a choice of no thought . He needs us let’s go. Toward the last year there were lots of trips to the hospital 110 miles away. Overnight stays for appointments and radiation treatments. Dr appointment after appointment. The cancer spread to his pelvic bone and lower spine. As I watched my childhood hero suffer but keeping a smile he once again became that amazing man of my younger years. I never in my worst dreams thought I would be giving morphine to my Dad or changing his catheter bag or just sitting and holding his hand and praying for God’s touch on him. This time with Dad was such a blessing to me. Through the time we had with Dad our youngest son age 6 at the time came to know my hero and why he was that person. Being my Fathers care giver gave Dad and I that chance to become close once more and in a strange way he was also my care giver. We also lost our 32 year old daughter 5 years later to this horrible disease. Back at it for our child. Good bless all that have a calling for the sick and scared.
