About Dennis D.
In August of 2020, two years following the unexpected death of my wife, I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. This scary news was not only difficult for me to cope with, but was also very hard on my children, who were still dealing with the loss of their mother. As my cancer journey unfolded, 2021 became a harrowing rollercoaster ride of treatments and surgeries which ultimately lead to a new diagnosis of metastatic disease. The course of treatment changed dramatically with the introduction of Androgen Deprivation Therapy and external-beam radiation therapy. The resulting physical and emotional changes were extremely challenging to say the least. All along I tried to walk a fine line of keeping my family informed and at the same time protecting them from the details of my struggles. Needing an outlet for the emotions I was experiencing, I turned to a friend and former associate, Abby Graham, whom I knew to be strong, respectful, kind and caring. Abby has provided me with a sounding board for all of my challenges, struggles, fears and accomplishments. This amazing young woman offers support and insights where she can, but mainly a kind and caring listening ear. She’s always there when I need her, and I can’t imagine what I would do without her friendship. By the way, all of our communication has been by text or email as we live more than two hours apart. Her story is that of a “true caregiver!”
