I care for my boyfriend whom I met again for the second time after being apart for 34 years. Before his illness he was a comedian and a stunt actor, as a matter of fact his last earnings was from Veronica Mars show – 12/2005. He is in remission of stage 3 prostate cancer. At first I thought his cancer was like a cold which I assume would away in a few days but I soon learn that we were in a real fight to live each day as our Best Life Ever for the Second Half. My patience was tested to its limit and beyond..Each test, doctor’s visit, blood draws, radiation treatments and eating was met with us waiting and more waiting and each time praying for good news. I learn how to endure his mood swings and kept in mind that he’s mad at the cancer not me. I gain Patience to sit with the man I love and the endurance to fight along side him these are the two important lesson I learned. Some of the hardest things for me is his everyday crankiness at himself of how the cancer alter his life, his bland food choices so he won’t get sick to his stomach and nearly having no desire for a sex life unless he takes a pill to help him feel the emotion. The list goes on but these are my top three that I have hard time dealing with. What really surprising is to see and know he is an inspiration not only to me but to others he encounters daily. From the moment he knew about his prostate cancer he didn’t focus on the cancer rather he decided to fight it with all his energy, mind, body and soul. He saw the humorous side of the illness and not let Prostate Cancer rule his world.and surprisingly to see him you would never assume he is fighting cancer because he looks healthy, fit and overall witty. All cancers suck.
