My wife, Vera, and I served a total of 46 years in the USAF, she, 22 I, 24. We traveled all over the world from Europe to Southeast Asia (Vietnam 1971-1972). 5 days before she retired, Vera was diagnosed with cancer in her right thigh. On the day her retirement took effect 1 June 1996 she was take from the base hospital and transferred to the Veterans administration. Since that time Vera has been totally disabled and not been able to walk or even stand on her own. I was not prepared for this.
I have had to take care of her with the help of my 2 children and the VA. We have been married over 53 years, and I will keep taking care of Vera for as long as I am able.
