About Emily L.
My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer in January of 2017, which really shook up our entire family. Various forms of cancer have devastated our family and taken loved ones, so we all felt the debilitating fear that a cancer diagnosis can bring. However, in the diagnosis, surgery, and recovery it was my mom, Ann, who was filled with unrelenting hope. She immediately started digging into research, reading books on prostate cancer, learning about alternative medicine strategies and diets, connecting with other survivors and basically taking on the incredible challenge of being the most loving caregiver I have ever seen. My dad is a janitor at our church and when he was in recovery, she not only took care of him, but she went to the church and did his job so that he could keep it. Recovery from surgery was longer than we thought, and it took a toll on all of us, but my mom was incredible throughout the whole journey. To this day, my dad is making difficult decisions about his health and how best to proceed to fight his cancer. When the rest of us feel like bossing him around or telling him what to do, she continues to support his decisions with patience, understanding, and grace. My parents are an inspiring testament to what it means to really love someone in an active, sacrificial way. I’ve always known how amazing she is but seeing her care for my dad in sickness really proved how meaningful those wedding vows are. Send her a care package ❤️
