About John W.
I was diagnosed in February 2006 at age 44. In the almost 12 years since, I have endured a radical prostatectomy in ’06, radiation therapy on the prostate bed in 2010 due to rising PSA, hormonal therapy and radiation on my pelvic lymph nodes in 2013 due to another recurrence, and two more lengthy rounds of hormonal therapy since for two more recurrences. My wife, Laura has been my steadfast caregiver all this time – she has had to endure ME through all of these treatments. It remains to be seen if we can get my cancer into a durable remission, but we keep trying! We have become advocates for prostate cancer research, supporters of ZERO through the Asheville 5k Run/Walk, and have been willing listeners and consultants to newly diagnosed patients and their loved ones for the last several years. I am grateful to still be alive, and I know I probably wouldn’t be without the advancements made in recent years, thanks to funding and advocacy from ZERO and like-minded prostate cancer non-profits.
