About Michael O.
Hello Kristen, I was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in July of 2018, the summer before I was to retire as a 6th grade Social Studies teacher. For my wife Judy and I you can imagine what a shock it has been and how overwhelmed we have felt since the diagnosis. After a few days of many tears my wife Judy took control of the situation by creating multiple binders with information about the disease and the many options of where to get treatment. She also has kept track of all my appointments, measures out my medicines, and has completely changed our diets to a more healthy one. Judy has been beside me for every appointment that I have had to go to, and has been my emotional rock through the ups and downs of treatment.
A few months before my diagnosis we placed Judy’s elderly mother into a nursing home due to her age and memory issues. This was after spending many nights in the emergency room helping Judy’s mother recover after many falls when she was in an assisted living facility. Judy is her sole care taker and visits her faithfully during the week.
This May it will be 30 years since our first date, we went to see “A Field of Dreams” and after many ups and downs I cannot imagine what my life would be like without her love and support.
This is why I’m nominating my wife to be recognized as a special caregiver.
