About Shannon B.
Martha is my Dad’s caregiver. My Dad is 84 and has stage 4 advanced prostate cancer. She has been a godsend. Martha is the mother of my late brother’s fiancé. My brother was engaged to Marie in 1995 when he passed away from a brain tumor. Our family remained close to Marie over the years. She married and Martha lives with her family most of the year. When I called Marie to let her know about my Dad’s cancer, she immediately wanted to help. My Mom passed away in 2009 from breast cancer and my Dad never remarried. When Marie mentioned my Dad being sick, Martha immediately said she wanted to help my Dad. She is a retired LPN and offered to live at my Dad’s house and be his caretaker. She has been with him since January 4, 2019. She has really helped my dad recover from 2 weeks of radiation. She tries desperately to get him to eat, fixing his favorite foods. She coordinates all of his doctors appointments, and she has accompanied him on several ER visits. She keeps me and my sisters informed of my Dad’s progress. (I live in Dallas and visit my Dad every couple of weeks). And she does all of this because she wants to. She doesn’t ask for any pay. She just wants to help. My dad and her have formed a special bond. She is not only a caretaker, she is a friend to my Dad. My Dad loves to tell stories of days when he launched astronauts into space in the 60’s. And Martha loves to listen to those stories. Martha is just a wonderful caretaker and has become a part of our family.
