The PSA screening test for prostate cancer has been used for decades, but it’s not a perfect test. Doctors don’t yet have an optimal way to identify upfront which men are at lower risk of aggressive prostate cancer and which men are at higher risk and might need earlier and/or more frequent screening.
A new study for Veterans aims to combine information from a man’s genes and his family history to help him and his doctor make decisions about prostate cancer screening. Veterans ages 55-69 who do not have prostate cancer can enroll. They’ll receive information about their personal genetic risk of prostate cancer. This study aims to help improve prostate cancer screening for all men.
