About Corinne M.
Eleven years ago, my mother passed away from lung cancer 6 months after diagnosis. During her last 6 months, my father, Bert, quit his job to take care of her full time—making her meals, administering her medicine, sleeping on the couch in the living room each night, where her hospital bed was. A few years after my mother passed away, my father was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. He has been living with cancer for 8 years now, and in that time, he found love again with an old high school friend, Mary, who quickly became a cherished member of our family. Over the past year, my father’s cancer has progressed to stage IV metastatic disease. Although it has been difficult on both my father and his wife, especially due to COVID-19, not once have they complained, even in the face of not-so-promising news and what seems like never-ending isolation due to COVID-19. I am beyond grateful for Mary, who has been my father’s primary caretaker during this time. She really does it all—from grocery shopping to taking care of their dogs to cleaning to giving my dad spa days and being a wonderful companion to him. For all of these reasons and many more, I would like to show them some love.
