About Brad H
Imagine a man, a fearless one. One who runs into burning buildings for a living. One who rode life living on edge one motorcycle at a time. This man is my father. This man is one who came home early 2009 to tell his 4 almost grown children he was recently diagnosed with cancer. There’s was much uncertainty and doubt. After meeting with specialist, it was decided to not wait with chemotherapy and radiation…a radical prostatectomy was decided. A very difficult decision for a very active man in his 40’s!
After a very long period of surgeries, catheters, and medicines.. he was officially cancer free, prostate free.. but cancer free. However, prostate free comes with many trials and tribulations. Very personal ones. My mother and father went through a very difficult transition process.
Shortly after beating cancer, the once Patient became a caregiver to his only son who who was shot in Afghanistan, he was able to take his experiences as a patient and cancer survivor and reflect them to this young 23 year old whose life was changed forever.
Statistics show, men in uniform develop cancer at a higher rate and incidence than the normal population. So as a uniformed family, we are unfortunately more educated in cancer and appreciate the spread of knowledge, after all knowledge is power!
