About Elizabeth W.
My mom, birth mother to be more specific, has been taking care of her husband of 41 years for the past few years. I was adopted out 50 years ago to a wonderful couple who are/were my parents until they passed away in the early 2000’s. I recently finally searched for and found my birth mother this past year. She was a young 15 year old girl who was made to give her baby up for adoption. She went on to marry and have another daughter four years later. The marriage did not last long, and she soon met Tom, her current husband, while working at Ford Motor Company. Within two years of their marriage she was severely injured in an accident at work. He took care of her, and her young daughter, for several years following the accident. He later adopted her daughter, my sister. Unfortunately, they lost her at age 18. Throughout the years they supported each other through life’s tragedies and stood together as a strong front to what could have destroyed their marriage. Tom was diagnosed a few short years ago and underwent treatment for prostate cancer and now he has also been diagnosed with COPD. She, even though she has lifelong health problems from her accident so many years ago, continues to be a strong woman and loving caregiver for her wonderful, loving, caring, giving husband. To know them, and to be given the gift of another set of loving parents, is such a blessing. To be honest, the real blessing is the gift that they have in each other.
