About Matlene P.
Our story is just beginning. My husband and I will celebrate 29 years of marriage in March. He gets his PSA tested every year. There have been a few times that the number was higher than they preferred, so he has had 2 negative biopsies. Last year, however, they found cancer. They say it is early. They’ve been watching his PSA and we go in on Valentine’s Day for another test and appointment with his urologist. He is planning to talk to the doctor about beginning the radiation treatments this year. It really stays in his head all the time and it makes it hard for him to be present while with family or work. I will be right beside him regardless of treatment. He’s always been such a rock and a provider for our family. In 2004, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Thankfully it was benign but it was very scary. We had two girls in middle school and a lot going on. He never complained and was there for me and our family in a way I would not have expected. In the hospital, he even stepped into the shower fully clothed to help with my first shower after my surgery. My balance was off due to the tumor being on my hearing nerve. That’s just one example of my strong and courageous husband. I know we are facing an emotional year but we’re thankful to face it with each other!
