About Randy K.
Stage IV prostate cancer (PCa) struck in January 2015 with metastases to my left side ureter lymph node chain. Gleason(GL)7(4+3), Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) at 840, but no symptoms whatsoever. My wife was on the conference call with my urologist and we got the news together. We were floored, but I vowed to take this on as I do my marathons (144 to date, 20 post cancer Dx). I wanted to not tell the five kids, I wanted to hopefully have good news when I did the dreaded “C” reveal.
I finally informed the children in March 2015 after the PSA had plummeted and one stated that “I wouldn’t worry until Dad worries” They and my wife have been very supportive of me with my ADT induced hot flashes, mood swings, weight gain, irritability and my fasting two days before each chemotherapy. Some even came to sessions with me, to keep me amused. I wouldn’t have been able to endure it as well without the love and support of my Ohana.
